ABOUT
REVIVAL - Weaving the Future is about reminiscing the heritage culture of silk and keeping inheritance for the future generation. SITE The project location is located at Kaixiangong Village, Jiangcun, Suzhou, China. It is located at the paddy field inside the area. The site history of Kaixiangong Village is related to the history of silk in China especially in Suzhou and it is considered to be the most important factor, because it influenced the rise and the downfall of the economic in Kaixiangong Village and also it is the location where the Suzhou First Silk Factory was built. The selected project site location is chosen by considering the sun path orientation, therefore the visitors can get warmer condition during the winter and cooler condition during the summer as the sun path is different in different climate. It is also by the consideration of the noise, pollution, and the traffic level around the area where it is controllable and greatly accessible as it is near the main road and have the road that can fit the car, where the hotel also near the selected project site which make it more accessible for the foreign visitor. It is also near the lake which can be accessed by the boat. The site is a paddy field which has an undulating form about 1200-1500 mm height, therefore by considering this aspect the building will integrate a platform with timber decking and pier and beam foundation as it is built in the clay soil. The timber decking will also greatly functioned for the watering system of the soil and the plants because it has a gap between the timber so that the water can directly pour down to the soil and water the plants. The site collage is interpreted as a series of weaving thread. where there are lots of intersection between the road, and every intersection has it own program and the silk of the weaving thread is connected with the past, present and the future. As in the present there is clothing sewing factory near the site, which related back to the past history of the silk textile factory. The paddy field is represented by the textile of the weaving outcome which has a similar pattern of the segregation of the paddy field. As this weaving wokrshop called “kesi” is the local Suzhou culture, it will help the youth to gain new skill therefore they can also open a weaving store in the future and can have a weaving artwork as well. It also gives the opportunity to teach at the workshop. Aside from opening job opportunity it also protect the heritage culture of Suzhou and inherit it to the future generation.
